About the Band

Who were Lost Celts?

LOST CELTS were an Irish Rock-American Acoustic-British Folk band based in Cincinnati, Ohio, 2014-2023. For much of their existance, they were the city's premier locally-based Irish Rock band!

Where did the name come from?

In the first few centuries A.D, invating Roman Legions conquered much of Europe, from the Iberian peninsula to the North Sea. From Gallaecia (modern France), they crossed into what they called Britannia, Hibernia, and Caledonia -- modern day England, Ireland, and Scotland. Everywhere they went, they encountered strange, mystic peoples who were unlike anyone else they had met before: the CELTS.

Celtic tribes or individuals which didn't care to assimilate into Roman culture quickly went underground, or scattered themselves to the far corners of the Earth, or were simply ... lost.

Rome soon fell, and the Dark Ages began. But for centuries, there persisted rumors of forgotten Celtic tribes -- these so-called 'LOST' celts -- who survived on the fringes of civilization, or whom had found a way to 'hide in plain sight' out of the oppressive bullies of the Middle Ages. Other Celts found their way to obscure settlements within Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. But also appeared in Spain, France, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, and even as far away as Romania, Turkey, Lebanon, and North Africa, making encampments everywhere they went. It is also possible that a few of these Celts managed to find their way all the way to the shores of the New World, centuries before the Norse. Or so the legend goes ...

We thought the story of Celts being rooted in Ireland but then being scattered to draw influences from anywhere the Celts may have lived was a great idea for a band name. And bringing it all full circle, LOST CELTS band based itself in an American city named after a prominent Roman: Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus.

Remember, those who are among friends are never truly "lost" ...
